Utah occupies a unique geographic and geologic
space which create climate, hydrologic, and landform diversity
perhaps greater than any other region of North America.
The western flank of the Rocky Mountains meets the Great Basin
forming a distinct north-south separation bounded on the south
by the Colorado Plateau where exposed geology presents the land
and erosion dramatically in what has become popularized as Red
Rock or Canyonlands country. Here National Parks and
Monuments now protect spectacular focal points such as Bryce
Canyon, Arches, Canyonlands, Natural Bridges, Dinosaur, Capital
Reef, Cedar Breaks, Hovenweep, Grand Staircase-Escalante, and
Zion. Inspiring mountains and expansive forests, snow fed
mountain lakes, cascading streams, and silt laden rivers
offer wondrous and beautiful locations for photography of
fanciful quality. So, from the slot canyons of the Escalante
River region, to the depths of Zion Canyon, the curious sculpted
arches and pinnacles of Arches and Canyonlands to the fossilized
remnants or bygone life in Dinosaur or the vivid color of Bryce
and Cedar Breaks exposed geology attracts photographers for the
grand and close views found only here.
